Herbert Charles Spotswood was born about 1863, the third of four sons of Frederick Augustus Spotswood (1830-1872) and his wife Elizabeth Ann Guy (1830-1905). HC Spotswood married Lucy Farrell on 25 February 1895 in Launceston. They had two daughters, Faith and Dorothy. HC Spotswood was a mining and commission agent and later a draper. He was the secretary and a performer for the Launceston Volunteer Rifle Dramatic Club. He performed in 'HMS Pinafore' presented by Pollard's Liliputian Opera Company in May 1880. He was also the honorary secretary of the Minstrel and Glee Club in 1880. He died on 9 November 1946 at Devonport and was buried at Carr Villa, Launceston.
