Soroptimism, from the words 'soror' (sister) and 'optima' (best) is an international organisation of professional and business women. The objects of the organisation include ethical behaviour, striving for human rights, advancing the status of women, and developing a spirit of friendship and service. ;;Chartered in October 1949, Launceston was one of the first Soroptimist clubs established in Tasmania.;;The Launceston SI Club undertakes a wide range of fundraising activities, with funds distributed to local charities/organisations. They also run social activities and run regular club meetings.
