Soroptimism, from the words 'soror' (sister) and 'optima' (best) is an international organisation of professional and business women. The objects of the organisation include ethical behaviour, striving for human rights, advancing the status of women, and developing a spirit of friendship and service. ;;The George Town Club was chartered in May 1982. The George Town SI Club undertakes a wide range of fundraising activities, with funds distributed to local charities/organisations. They also run social activities and hold regular club meetings.
