Description:
Thomas Anstey arrived in Van Diemen's Land in 1823, and received a land grant of 2560 acres near Oatlands. He was invlolved in the importation of merino sheep. By 1836 he had acquired more than 20,000 acres. He was a magistrate, a Member of the Legislative Council, a founding shareholder of the Bank of Van Diemen's Land and a director of the Derwent Bank.
