J. Bernard M. Walch was a Lieutenant, Second Royal West Surrey Regiment (Queen's) who was killed in action in France in World War One.
Born in Bellerive to James William Henry and Catherine (nee Millard) Walch, he had trained as an architect in England, apprenticed to Mr Milllard of Milllard and Pryce, London before enlisting in the armed forces.
He was a contemporary of Bernard Walker, architect, who was a relation by James Willliam's second marriage to Isa Walker,
