Helen Gee was born in Launceston in 1950 to Donald and Diana (formerly Thompson) Gee. The family lived in Westbury, Tasmania. ;;Helen completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Psychology at the University of Tasmania in 1971, then worked and travelled.;;Helen was involved for many years in a wide range of environment and community groups and was recognised as a leading conservationist. In the early 1970s she helped the campaign to save Lake Pedder. She was also a member of the South-West Action Committee, worked with the United Tasmania Group, and in 1976 helped establish the Tasmanian Wilderness Society. Helen worked as an Australian Conservation Foundation Councillor, a Wilderness Society campaigner and, later, a conservation representative on the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Consultative Committee. She was involved in a multitude of environmental struggles, including the campaign to restore Lake Pedder.;;Helen was also a writer and editor.;;Helen married Bob Graham in 1979. They owned 'Stonehurst', a 5,000 acre grazing property near Buckland in south-east Tasmania where they raised two children.;;Bob and Helen travelled to many remote parts of Australia and also volunteered as caretakers on Deal Island, Three Hummock Island (both in Bass Strait) and at the Eyre Bird Observatory in Western Australia.;;Helen Gee was placed on the Honour Role of outstanding Tasmanian women in 2011 in recognition of her service to the environment.;;She died in December 2012.;;
