In 1888 St Georges was part of the parish of Holy Trinity. The parishes of Lilydale and St Georges, Invermay were amalgamated after 1948. 

The former parish of St Georges and Lilydale is now (2016) part of Launceston North Special Ministry District, Northern Mission Network.

The first St George's was consecrated in August 1887. The foundation stone of the present brick church, designed by Alexander and F J Heyward in perpendicular Gothic, was laid in July 1925.
