The Devonport branch of the Church of England Men's Society (C.E.M.S.) was formed on 27 August 1911. ;;One of the two chief rules of the society is that a member must do some definite work for the church, and, to attain this result, the members were drafted into various sub-committees to look after such matters as the Sunday school, church grounds, men's services, choir, correspondence, social, etc.
