Alex Lyne was born to 1909 in Melbourne. He went to Scotch College where he was a prefect and dux. He studied Arts and Education at Melbourne University. He taught at Brighton Grammar and later at Scotch College where he remained for 30 years. He was Head of Geography and Drama Master. He founded the Geography Teachers Association of Victoria. ;;;;Arthur John Lyne (John) was a partner in Mair and Lyne Pty Ltd a furniture and design store in Melbourne;;;;In December 1939 Alex arrived in Tasmania with his father Arthur John Lyne. They wrote letters to their family describing Tasmania's landscape.
