Description:
The origins of the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) date back to 1910, where on the 11 March 1910 a meeting of like-minded radio experimenters met at the Hotel Australia in Martin Place Sydney and formed the very first body to represent interests of wireless experimenters to government. Other, state based, organisations followed suit and a federation of each of the state organisations was later established.;;Harold Rigby Gregory, who was involved with the WIA in Sydney, formed the Tasmanian Division at a meeting in Hobart on 21 February, 1923. The Launceston Wireless Club was granted affiliation in October, 1923. The WIA Tasmania Division call sign was VK7WI.;;The Hobart Radio Research Club (7HR), which had its foundations in the predecessor organisation, Radio Experimenters' Club, merged into the WIA Tasmanian Division in 1929.;;In 2004, following the formation of a National WIA, the Tasmanian Division closed and was replaced by several local groups including: Radio and Electronics Association of Southern Tasmania Inc, Northern Tasmanian Amateur Radio and Electronics Group (Launceston) and the Central Highlands Amateur Radio Club.;;
