Edwin Thomas Clements (1868-1965) set up a business as a produce merchant in Formby Road, Devonport in January 1901. He dealt in potatoes, chaff and other produce, using the slogan 'The Farmer's Friend', and established branches across Tasmania. The firm became Clements and Marshall Pty Ltd in 1921.
Clements Marshall was absorbed by Websters in 2002.
