Irene was born in Stanthorpe, Queensland in 1931 and spent her childhood in Toowoomba. In 1960 Irene moved to Tasmania with her family. After many years travelling around Tasmania Irene developed a fascination for Tasmanian history, and family history. She started undertaking family history research in 1982 and in 1986 she formed the VDL and Norfolk Islander Interest Group. Irene has been self-publishing historical books, pamphlets, and articles for over thirty years. Irene has travelled extensively on board the replica of the ship the Lady Nelson, and is an expert in Tasmanian geneaological studies, Norfolk Island, old churches, and many other subjects. Irene has also worked as a Tasmanian Private Researcher.
