Richard John Simson, known as Dick, was a long-standing member of the Smithton Camera Club, the New Norfolk Camera Club, and was the inaugural Vice-President of the Tasmanian Photographic Federation. He was born on 16 November 1918 to John Augustus Simson and Laura Mayne Simson (formerly Purser). He had a brother, Basil Augustus, known as Sam.;;John was in banking and worked in Hobart, Fingal and Latrobe. Richard followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Hobart Savings Bank in 1935. He married [Violet] Joan Wilkinson in 1948, worked in bank branches before promotion to Manager of the New Norfolk Branch. Richard and Joan settled back in Hobart in 1974.;;
