Agency Number:
Start Date:
30 Apr 1970
Description:
A public meeting was held on 30 April 1970 and addressed by the Minister for Lands and Works, the Hon. Wilfred Barker. A committee was subsequently formed as a pilot committee to advise on planning and implementation of the Cressy-Longford Irrigation Scheme, which had secured Commonwealth funding assistance. It had its own constitution and held formal annual general meetings.;;The first committee meeting was held on 14 May 1970 and chaired by Joe Piscioneri, engineer from the Commission. It comprised 5 landholders with water allocations within the irrigation district. ;;The Scheme officially opened in March 1974 and was the first major irrigation project established in Tasmania.;;It is not known when the committee ceased to function.
