Author, researcher and historian, Fiona MacFarlane was born in Hobart in July 1973 and moved with her family to Victoria in 1978. After completing her tertiary education in 1995 she returned to live in Tasmania where she began her career as an Archives Officer at the National Archives of Australia and later an Archivist at the Archives Office of Tasmania (now known as the State Library and Archive Service). ;;In 2006 she published a non- fiction book, 'Quirky Names in Tasmania History,' and in 2011 published her first Tasmanian historical novel, 'Breakfast at Midnight,' set in Bellerive in 1894/5. She subsequently wrote articles on subjects relating to Tasmanian women's history, including female bushrangers and bushranger mistresses, the Rational Dress Movement of the 19th century and wrote several female convict biographies. ;;In recent years, Fiona has transcribed the diaries and letters of lesser known Tasmanian women including sisters Amy and Fanny Davenport, daughters of the Reverend Arthur Davenport, minister of Holy Trinity Church in North Hobart during the 1860s and the diaires of Mrs Harriet Browne, wife of Thomas Gore Browne, Governor to Tasmania (1861 - 1869).
