John 'Locko' Loughlin (William John Loughlin) was a popular radio host and compere in Hobart Tasmania. Born in Victoria in 1924, during WWII John spent time as a member of several concert parties doing camp shows throughout Victoria. After the War John furthered a career in the entertainment industry compering several talent quests and dance band performances. In 1951 John started a radio course as an announcer and in 1952 joined 3CS Colac.;;John joined Hobart Radio Station 7HT as an announcer in 1953, before moving to 7HO as a breakfast announcer in 1955. A very popular announcer, one of his most popular segments was the '7HO Good Morning Club' which he hosted with Frank Avis. In 1954 John, with Ray Hervey, covered the Royal Tour of Tasmania. He also travelled to Vietnam in 1969 with Tasmanian entertainers Diana Dalton, The Singing Kettles, Judy Lynn, Jan Voss, and Peter Richman.;;During his radio career, and post retirement, John was a regular announcer and event compere. John compered the opening of Wrest Point Casino, many Hobart Regattas, and worked with artists such as the Seekers, the Easybeats, and Winifred Atwell.;;John married Elizabeth in Hobart in March 1957.
