Born Sydney Arthur Maxwell Graver, Max Graver was a radio mechanic and salesman, and later public servant. He was born on the North-West Coast of Tasmania in 1910 and married Eileen Nora Pegler in 1931. They had two sons. Max was an amateur photographer and film maker - elected assistant secretary of the Northern Tasmania Camera club in 1931. He lived in Queenstown in the 1930s where he was the local agent for John King and Sons, Airmaster Radio and Strombo-Carlson. Max and family later moved to Hobart.
