The Tasmanian Netball (Basketball) Association, now 'Netball Tasmania' is a statewide association overseeing the growth of the sport of Netball in Tasmania. The exact date of the establishment of the Tasmanian Netball Association is not clear, however by 1932 the Tasmanian Netball (Basketball) Association had six teams under its control. When the National Carnival was held in Tasmania in 1935 the Association was known as the 'Tasmanian Womens Netball (Basketball) Association'. The sports name was officially changed from 'Basketball' to 'Netball' in Tasmania in 1970. 'Womens' was also removed from the title of the Association at this time. In 1979, State Championships commenced in Tasmania with an inaugural event in Launceston. The same year Tasmanian competed for the first time in the All-Australia Netball Night Carnival held in Adelaide. In 2001 the Tasmanian Netball Association, based in Hobart, moved operations to Launceston under the control of the Board of 'Netball Tasmania'. As at 2018, Netball Tasmania oversees the management of Netball in Tasmania. Netball Tasmania manages a State Team 'Tassie Spirit' and is affiliated with ten Netball Associations - Burnie, Circular Head, Devon, Flinders Island, George Town, Kingborough, Northern Tasmania, North Eastern, Southern, and St Helens.
