Basil George Ward (1914 - 2005) was the son of Alfred Ernest and Florence Minette Ward (formerly Mills). The family lived in Greenlands Avenue in Sandy Bay and Basil was involved with swimming and life-saving. He participated in the 1935 all-Australian Life-Saving Competition held in Melbourne in1935.
