W H MacFarlane was a writer and clergyman. After an early career in journalism he graduated from St Aidan's Theological College in Ballarat, then served as a missionary in Torres Strait and priest in Victoria and Tasmania. He was a regular contributor to The Bulletin under various noms de plume. In retirement he settled in Bridport, Tasmania were he researched the history of the local community. He wrote articles for The Age, The Examiner, the North-Eastern Advertiser and talks for the Australian Broadcasting Commission.
