Benjamin Bissell Dyer (c.1796-1875) first arrived in Western Australia from England in 1830. In 1833 he travelled to NSW, where he married Ann Smith Reay (1806-1879). In the mid 1830s Benjamin and Ann moved to Hobart with a daughter, Catherine. In Hobart they had seven more children - Sarah, Benjamin, Clara Maria, Frederic, William, Agnes, and Robert. Benjamin and Ann were both teachers at St Davids, Hobart Town. Benjamin was a head teacher at Central School, Hobart from 1852-55. He is also noted as being a dancing and music master. B B Dyer died in 1875 while postmaster at Brighton. Ann died four years later. Both are buried at St Marks Church, Pontville. Clara Maria Dyer (1839-1916) married Henry Dean (1838-1905) in 1863. Their son Frank Barclay Dean (1874-c.1920) married Miriam Margaret Bramich (1882-1962).
