Description:
John Elmer (1802-1880) and his wife Frances (nee Kemp) (1804-1876) and their four daughters (Margaret b.1824, Eliza b.1825, Susan b.1828, and Esther b.1830) arrived in Tasmania per the Forth in 1831. The family was based at Woolnorth while John, a shepherd, and was employed with the Van Diemens Land Company. By 1842 the family were based in Launceston and had expanded (Harriet (1834-1854), Edward James (1836-1916), Amelia (b.1838, Frances (b.1839), Elizabeth (1840-1891), John (1842-1901), Henry Thomas (1844-1927), and Alfred 'George' David Kemp (1847-1921). In the 1850s the family relocated to the Deloraine area, living at 'Cheshunt', and later at 'Sherwood', Latrobe. Alfred David Kemp ('George') married Susanah Watts (1848-1936) in 1868 at Whiteford Hills. They lived in a house on Cheshunt where George was a stockman and farmer, and had six children - Frances Amelia (1869-1957), Alfred Ernest (b.1872), Susana Louisa (b.1872), Caroline Maud (b.1875), and Emily May (1878-1941). After George's death in 1921, Susan remarried, changing her name to 'King'. Frances Amelia Elmer (1869-1957) married William Enfield Field (1861-1831) in 1896.
