Together they had two children Claire, b.1954, and David, b.1958. In 1955 Field was called up for national service and posted to the 6th Armoured Division in Minden Germany. In 1960 Field became an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). ;;In 1964 Field accepted a 5 year contract position in Tasmania with the Department of Public Works. The position included travel to Australia as well as housing in Claremont. At the end of the contract the family decided to settle in Tasmania, in 1970 purchasing a block at 33 Aldinga St, Kingston. From 1989 Tony was chairman of the Church's building committee and coordinator of building works.;;As well as his architectural work, Tony was a talented artist. In the 1980s he took up pottery, some of which he exhibited. In the 1990s he began painting in oils under the tutelage of Joan Humble. After retirement Tony completed a large body of landscape art work in both oils and pastels. A keen photographer, Tony travelled over the south of the state taking landscape photographs from which to develop paintings. From 1994 he moved his focus to religious subjects as well as portraiture. He created an oil painting of the wedding of Princess Mary and Prince Frederik of Denmark which was placed on display at Government House. The painting was then taken by the Royal couple back to Copenhagen. Tony Field passed away in 2019 aged 89.
