Description:
An English artist and photographer, William Pousty was born in Hampshire, England in 1837. An established photographer, working in London and Cheltenham, he had a studio in Hereford with portrait artist Charles Gwatkin Hill. In 1864 he moved to Brighton to briefly open a studio before being declared bankrupt in 1865. William appears to have had a range of employment in the 1860s and 70s, including photography work.;;William migrated per the IBERIA (and FLINDERS) to Tasmania in 1883 with his wife Caroline Hodges Ward (1834 - 1895) and their five children (William Charles, Frank Edward, Harry, Emily Caroline, and Arthur), settling in Launceston and later Deloraine. In 1888 William set up a studio in Westbury but in the same year he was declared bankrupt. He went on to have photographic studios at Launceston, Queenstown and Burnie (1889 - 91). He died of heart disease in 1897.;;[Note that W C Pousty, 1864-1925, electrician is a different man]
