Description:
Louis Beauvais, landowner and manager of The Van Diemen's Land Establishment, died of paralysis on 13th October, 1863 aged 68 years. Louis Beauvais had some connection with the directors of the Van Diemen's Land Establishment in London before he was appointed to superintend their properties at Cressy, Tasmania in October 1830. In May 1834, he was superseded by James Denton Toosey. Louis Beauvais then retired to live at 'Lauderdale', Muddy Plains, where he lived until his death on 13 October, 1863, aged 68. A widower when he emigrated from England, he left his only daughter and child in England, and married a second time in the colony to Maria Brown at the age of 67 years.
