Description:
As at 2019, Tennis Tasmania, based in Hobart, was the governing body of tennis in Tasmania. Tennis Tasmania's key aims were to promote and facilitate participation in tennis at all levels; and conduct state, national and international tournaments. Over 50 Clubs and over 4,000 registered players were governed by Tennis Tasmania across the state. This included affiliated clubs in the northern region, north-west region, and south and east regions. The Tennis Tasmania Board is responsible for overseeing the organisation's governance and strategic direction, and for reporting to the national body Tennis Australia. Tennis Tasmania consists of ordinary members (Tasmanian clubs), Associate members, Life Members, Corporate Members, and Board Members. Prior to 1996 Tennis Tasmania operated under a constitution which enforced a Hobart based governing structure. In 1996 a new redrafted constitution was put in place which saw the council and board abolished and state-wide elections held.
