A.H. Gifford began business in 1922 as an ironmonger and hardware wholesale and retailer. It took over the "Happy Home Stores" business that had been operated by J.S. Scarr; Arthur Henry Gifford had been an employee there.;;The business was located at 107-109 Elizabeth Street.;;In 1968 it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Kemp & Denning and by 1971 had moved from its Elizabeth Street location to join with K&D in new premises on the corner of Murray and Melville Streets.;;In 1987 it was wound up and became part of its parent company K&D.;;;;
