Description:
JJN Barnett was a professional photographer undertaking private work as well as work for local newspapers the Examiner and the Mercury. Earlier in his career Barnett operated from Glenorchy, photographing the Claremont Army Camp. In 1927 he opened a studio at 115 Liverpool Street, Hobart. Barnett was an official Tasmanian war correspondent in WWII. His business card from the 1950s describes him as a commercial and portrait photographer specialising in outdoor groups and portraits. He retired in 1959. Barnett was born in Hobart in 1882 to Edward Barnett (a Carrier/delivery man) and Margaret Leach. He married Bertha Elizabeth Drewett in 1905 and they had a son Edward Joseph (b.1905) and a daughter Laura (b.1907). Bertha passed away in 1946.
