Haughton Somerville Innes, M.B.E. was born on 7 Mar 1897, the son of Robert Russell Innes and Mary Augusta Forrest. He died in Sydney on 20 June 1983. He was the grandson of Frederick Maitland Innes (1816 - 1882),who was Premier and Colonial Secretary of Tasmania in 1870s and of Haughton Forrest the Tasmanian artist (1826 - 1925).;;Innes, known as Toney Innes, was a political journalist and correspondent employed by the Mercury newspaper in Hobart (and later Launceston) between 1913 - 1923; the Sydney Morning Herald as a political correspondent for Federal Parliament sitting in Melbourne and in 1927 in Canberra. In 1960 he was President of the Parliamentary Press Gallery. In 1957 by Special Invitation attended a function commemorating the opening of Parliament House in Canberra and in 1956 was a guest of the Tasmanian Government to celebrate the Centenary of Responsible Government. He retired in 1960 and moved to Sydney c.1962. He received an MBE in 1936.;;Innes attended The Friends School. He was a member of the Hobart Field Naturalists Club. On 22 December 1931, he married Margaret Tucker in Melbourne. They had two children. ;;
