The Devonport Sister City Association is a group involved in Sister City activities within Devonport. A relationship between Devonport and Minamata in Japan was formalised in 1996. Minamata is a town on the West Coast of the Japanese island of Kyushu, with a similar population to Devonport. The basis of sister city friendships is to foster cultural understanding and awareness.
