Description:
7EX was a Tasmanian commercial radio station. The station was established in 1938 by the northern Tasmanian based Examiner Newspaper. The northern station sported the slogan "On Top in Tasmania" and provided news, advertising and music along with women's and children's segments. The station, initially located at Charles Street, Launceston, was relocated in the 1960s to premises in the TNT-9 TV building Watchorn Street. Hosts on the station included for example Margot Parker, Rod Muir, Wayne Browne, Stan Anglesea, Mal Walden, and Mike Dodd. The station was managed by Alan McClelland in the 60-70s, and Ross Crawford in the 80s and 90s.The Station was purchased by the Totalisator Agency Board (TAB) in 1993. Shortly afterwards, the TAB combined 7EX with the southern station 7HT, closing the 7EX Launceston office and making the new station a sports focused service. In 2005 7EX moved to the FM band on 90.1. 7EX was relaunched in 2011 as a Launceston youth station 'Chilli FM'.
