Rudolph Harry Major was born on the 7 August 1898 and described his nationality as British. He was single and his residence was 9 Malunna Road, Lindisfarne.;;He was a member of the Australian Institute of Accountants and the Commonwealth Institute of Accountants. He commenced employment at the Hydro Electric Commission on the 12 August 1935 and spent time as an accountant based at Tarraleah. He had served as a Bombadier with the Australian Garrison Artillery, Fort Nelson in the Army Reserves. He had interests in Music, Photography, Tin-mining, and Mountaining in all parts of Tasmania.;;He retired from the Hydro in the 7 May 1965 and his cremation took place at Cornelian Bay Cemetery on the 14 Aug 1974.
