Description:
Edmund John Chisholm Dwyer-Gray was born in Ireland in 1870. He was a politician, journalist and grandson of reformer Caroline Chisholm. He emigrated to Tasmania in 1898 and after failing as a farmer became editor of the Labour newspaper the Daily Post [later the Voice]. In 1928 he was elected to parliament and served as Treasurer in the Albert Ogilvie Governent. He was Premier for six months in 1939 before reverting to Treasurer under Robert Cosgrove until his death in 1945.
