On 12 November 1929, Mr E. T. Emmett called a public meeting to form a "walking and touring club". Walter Taylor was elected as the first president.The Club officially came into being on 21 November.;;Its aim was to encourage walking, skiing and similar outdoor activities and to promote an interest in the preservation of flora, fauna and natural scenery. The club magazine, The Tasmanian Tramp, was first published in 1933;;The Club has a long history of active participation in conservation issues. ;;;;
