Description:
Committee established to commemorate the Battle of the Coral Sea. The Battle was a series of naval engagements off the north-east coast of Australia in May 1942. It was fought by Allied (United States and Australian) and Japanese aircraft against four different major groups of warships. The initial Coral Sea Week celebration was in 1946. This event included a charity ball and a luncheon address by the Australian-American Association's president. Each year since a 'Coral Sea Week' has been celebrated in Australia usually under the auspices of the Australian-American Association.
