On 28 October 1910 a public meeting was convened by E. A. Brooke and W. N. Hurst to discuss the formation of a New Town Rowing and Swimming Club. The attendance approved the formation. Provisional officers for the Rowing Club were appointed - President, Hon. Tetley Gant; trustees, Messrs. W. N. Hurst, H. Crisp, and H. Burcide; captain, Mr. M. C. Boniwell; secretary, Mr. E. Ward ; treasurer, Mr. M. Taylor.
