This series comprises Meredith Family letters and papers - letters written by the family to each other or received by other relatives and friends. They record the experiences of an East Coast settler family. The papers relate, in general, to property including plans, domestic accounts, farm journals and accounts etc.

The Meredith Family letters were initially numbered in sequence from number one onwards. Later on, the correspondence was 'split' into groups based on particular family members. This means that within the groupings there may appear to be number gaps e.g. item NS123/1/1 (letters from George Meredith to his wife Mary Ann) begins at letter 14 but previous numbered letters may be found in NS123/1/13 (letters from Mary Ann Meredith to her husband George).
