Series notes:
Images of Tasmania - scenery, people, and places - many unidentified. In some cases item titles have not been assigned. Those group and portrait plates provide excellent detail of clothing and hairstyles of the period.
The indexes in series NS3929 should be referred to for possible detail/titles of some of the unidentified images. While NS3929 is not a direct index for NS1553, it does index photographs that were made from some of the items in NS1553.

System of Arrangement:
Although there are 3 consignments, all came from R.Tanner. Those in Consignment 2 were retained at Sorell for some time and transferred after Consignment 1 was completed. Consignment 3 (all unidentified portraits) was mistaken for another transfer when being printed.
