Ledgers are the main financial record of a business. All that have survived have been kept. The overlapping dates maybe explained by the fact that at some time two ledgers may have been made, one for Suppliers which also includes various accounts including trade expenses, stock, bills receivable and payable, sundry accounts and bank accounts and one for Customers. Those for Customers seem to have a little more detail about what was purchased. Where this division is obvious it has been noted against the item. In some cases the same ledger may have been used for both customers and suppliers.
