How to Use:
These records were deposited by Mrs Thornton in 2001 after they had originally been offered to the National Library in 1988, transferred to the Carrington Smith Art Library, University of Tasmania in Feb 1989 and then transferred to the University Archives in 1993. Initially the records were placed in Archives on indefinite loan. In May 2006, following the death of Mrs Thornton, her children donated the records contained in deposit NGT2104 to the Archives Office.
Series notes:
Programs, news cuttings and photographs of Hobart Reperatory Theatre collected and mounted into albums in order to write a history of the Theatre. Kevin Thornton continued to add to these albums in his retirement. Mr Thornton was also given several albums by Catherine Shepherd, the playwright who came to Australia in the early 1930s and worked at the Munitions Optical Annex of the University of Tasmania for three and a half years. There are photographic copies of newspaper articles and some programs are copies.
