How to Use:
Use the index (series NS4032) to find the titles of all of the files. Under the terms of agreement made with Davies Brothers Ltd the following access conditions apply - "Photographs and negatives will not be made publicly available within 50 years of the date of creation without the express consent of Davis Brothers Pty Limited. All other records will be available for the public to use in the History Room."

Files can therefore be viewed and notes taken (i.e. negative numbers) but copies of photographs created in the last 50 years in any format cannot be made without permission.
Series notes:
Boxes of files of photographic prints (often with clippings attached) created by the Mercury Newspaper. Includes both people and subjects. Many prints include text on their reverse. As each box contains a range of files in Dewey Decimal number order, to find the subject you are looking for use the card index NS4023. The current list of each item for this series will only give the item titles the first and last file for each box.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
System of Arrangement:
In boxes (NS4021/1/1 to 417), each box contains a range of files in Dewey Decimal number order. The item titles for each box give the first and last file for each box. The negative number is on the photographis print. Files used by Mercury staff were not placed back into this Dewey sequence but were added to a new alphabetical sequence. (NS4031). Note 'PTE' on the back of a print means no negative will be held in the Mercury Negative Collections.
