Items 13 (ledger) to 14 record accounting entries for John Griffiths, Launceston (later Devonport) shipbuilder, mariner, fabricator and speculator who briefly relocated to Port Fairy 1843-1847 following his insolvency. The Griffiths material is compromised by use of the books for later cash book entries by E E Newton & Son (leather merchant, tanner, and boot manufacturer) c.1889 -1913, entered in black ink and thick nib, and overwriting many pages of original entries.
