Series notes:
This index describe the negative, date and number of negative.
In 2006 Mercury staff retrospectively indexed the negatives in an electronic database. A copy of the database was provided to TAHO. It was not possible to retain the record with its original functionality. TAHO created 2 indexes and reduced their size by removing multiple entries to the same set of negatives. The 2 indexes are NS4946 (this index - 1948-1989)
And NS4935 (index - 1921 - 1948)

System of Arrangement:
Chronological.;;The Mercury also used this index to indicate the level of damage sustained to the negatives when the basement of the building was flooded in 2001. Terms like destroyed negative, partially destroyed negative, missing negatives have been used. If there was more than one entry in the index for the same set of negatives this has been reduced to one entry only. If there is a negative still available for the damaged ones a check should be made of the negatives indicated on our listing as water damaged (NS4024).;;
