Series notes:
This series comprises glass plate negatives that were found under the house, 'Mawhera', 2 Mawhera Avenue, Lower Sandy Bay. One of the boxes has an order number made out to 'Mrs Perkins' which confirms that the subjects of the plates are Perkins family members and friends across a number of generations. There are family weddings and young children included. There are also two properties that appear frequently; Mawhera is one, and an assumption has been made that the other house could be the cottage that was constructed on the Mawhera land and let as a tenancy (referred to in advertisements in the Mercury - e.g. Mercury, 24 June 1886. p.1).

As this series largely comprises family groups and portraits, the Perkins children and spouses are listed below by name to assist with possible identification. Many of the people in the images remain unidentified, but it is possible that they could be matched with other photographs of the Perkins family and friends in the larger collections of the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office, including newspaper photographs.

The names the Perkins children and spouses are: Augusta Clementina Frances Perkins (b.1871) married Joseph Boultbee (m.1901), Jane Emmely (b.1872) James Alexander McElroy (m.1901), Dora Winifred (b.1874) married Arthur Larchin Butler (m.1898), Margaret Gwendoline (b.1876-d.1884), William John Alan (b.1878) married Nora Barclay (m.1905), Edith Lillian (b.1880), Ruby Emmeline (b.1882), Elsie Eileen Janet (b.1883) Frederick Betts (m.1910), Charles Morice (b.1885-d.1922) married Claire Watchorn (m.c.1916), Colin Henry (b.1887) married Mary Mearling (m.1919-London), Kenneth Winter (b.1889-d.1889) and Lawrence Winter and David Warrender (twins b.1893-d.1893).
