Jack Horne was born in Campbell Town, Tasmania on 10 February 1928. He spent much of his life growing up and working on the Central Plateau during times of great hardship and adversity.

Jack Horne-A 'Most Fortunate Life' - an oral history created and recorded by Phillip Hoysted describes Jack's experiences over four periods of his life - 1928-1938, 1939-1950, 1951-1960, and 1960 onwards.
