Greg Properjohn was born in Western Australia in 1949, the youngest of three boys. His family moved to Hobart, Tasmania, in the early 1960s where his father managed the Hobart Airport. He began playing the drums at a local private Catholic school. This began a lifelong passion for music, in particular jazz music. Greg was involved in the jazz scene in Tasmania from the late 1950s through to the early 2000s and played in many bands.
