Series notes:
These family albums comprise photographs, sketches, caricatures, verse and post-cards.

They were created and kept by Thomas (NS6759/1/1), his daughter Gladys (NS6759/1/2-3) and his daughter Estelle (Stella) (NS6759/1/4).

Item 5 (NS6759/1/5) was a gift to Thomas from his mother Susan.

The albums came to the Tasmanian Archives through the family of Estelle and Charles Rodway.

NS6759/1/1 reflects the late nineteenth and early twentieth-century fascination with the East, particularly Japan, as it contains cuttings and photographs of Japanese scenes. It also depicts Tom's life as a seaman. The album is also family-oriented with many Midwood family photographs and Hobart scenes. Amongst those of interest are a panorama of South Hobart, looking East with Adelaide Street in the foreground; "Sunnyside" New Town; Davies Avenue Queen's Domain; some house interior shots and the corner of Argyle and Macquarie Streets (opposite Ingle Hall).

NS6759/1/2 comprises mostly photographs with cuttings and several of Midwood's drawings. Of note are the following: Castray Esplanade with Lenna in background p.7, 'Sunnyside', New Town p.11, Government House p.12, Queenstown p.14, panoramic view of West Hobart from Knocklofty which shows Exhibition Building on Domain 1891-2 p.16, St John's Avenue New Town looking towards church p.16, corner Elizabeth and Collins streets looking south west (shows Bank, Ship Hotel) p.18, Tom Sinclair p.20, view of South Hobart (foreground) and Sandy Bay right along to Dunkley's Point (shows Queenborough Cemetery and Mt Nelson) p.23, Waterworks Hobart p.24, 'Lenna' at New Wharf, shows Salamanca warehouses p.26, Midwood drawings p.27-28.
