P2294 Register Cards of Architectural Drawings (P1332)01 Jan 193001 Oct 1992
How to Use:
There is an index to drawings in this series in P2294. A copy of the index has been made by NAA staff and annotated to show more title information, and drawings that were missing at transfer to the NAA.
Series notes:
This series consists of architectural plans drawn by the Civil Engineering Branch of the Tasmanian Government Railways. They range from detailed drawings of fit outs and minor alterations to workshop layouts, plans of new buildings and measured drawings of heritage listed buildings. In particular, there are extensive drawings of the buildings and workshops at both Launceston and Hobart. There are also drawings of alterations and additions to station and other buildings along the various lines in Tasmania. There are also some drawings relating to cottages and stationmasters residences throughout Tasmania. Plans in this series sometimes contain location information of surface and underground services such as diesel overflow pits and spill containments, drainage, sewerage, stormwater and fire hydrants. There are extensive plans relating to the Launceston flood mitigation scheme.

Some plans in this series are on tracing paper that has been edged with tape. In most cases they are brittle and often torn or cracked.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
System of Arrangement:
The three-part numbering system used to order these plans appears similar to ones used in other civil engineering plan series, such as P2213. The first letter used in the three-part alpha number however does not represent a line but a location. ;;The first letter represents sections; A - Launceston and facilities, B - Hobart and facilities, C - Main Line (Hobart to Western Junction), D - Derwent Valley Line, E - Fingal Line, F - North Eastern Line, G - Western Line and Branches, H - Launceston (surveys, site plans and drainage), J - Main Line and Branches (surveys, site plans and drainage), K - Western Line and Branches (surveys, site plans and drainage), L - Cottages and Flats generally, M - Buildings and structures generally, N - General Details, W - Charts and Graphs, X - Drawings (not departmental), A-V - Tool Annexe. Some of these sections have been further sub-divided. Drawings relating to structures along railway lines have their position indicated in the drawing number by the first digit. This is expressed as the number and part thereof of miles from the nominated beginning of the line. The second digit is a consecutive drawing number.;;The middle letter is lower case and is distinguished by a dash above and to the right of it.;;
