Series notes:
This series consists of correspondence files created originally by the Transport Commission, Tasmania, Railway Branch and then by the Australian National Railways Commission, Hobart covering many aspects of the running of railway stations and railway lines in Tasmania. e records cover such topics as suburban train services, derailments, Christmas/New Year arrangements, excursion trains, shunting mishaps, Royal Hobart Regatta, and postal carriage of mails. It would appear that during the early years of the series an "H"(Hobart) prefix was allocated to the files, but this practice seems to have ceased by 1958. In many cases the same number would be allocated each year to files covering certain topics. The records were created continuously until 1985 when all elements of file creation became the responsibility of the Launceston branch of the agency. These files are closely related to CRS P2206, Correspondence files, Hobart Railway Station, alphabetical series. In view of the fact that these records cover the activities of a now defunct organisation (Tasmanian State Government Railways) and would have considerable value to researchers they have been treated as valuable discontinued records for disposal purposes.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
