Series notes:
These volumes were used to record goods damaged or missing from goods consignments transported by Tasmanian Government Railways and Australian National Railways (TasRail). They show whom the consignor and consignee were, a description of the goods, particulars of each claim and its monetary value, and the amount actually paid to the claimant.

The volumes contain separate pages for each railway route (ie. Hobart to Burnie; Longford to Launceston) and the entries have been made chronologically against the relative route. Although no records have been located for goods damaged in transit prior to 1947, registers have been maintained since the railways first commenced moving goods and stock in 1872. The records provide details of the types of goods carried by the rail service prior to the phasing in of bulk carrying.
